Springtime is one of my favorites! The anticipation of everything emerging, including my new favorite food- asparagus. When we moved into our farmhouse three years ago- I tasted asparagus for the first time.
I was done after one bite. So today, I’ve combined two powerhouse items. My family begs to eat this combo of asparagus at night- no joke!
Three years ago, I really didn’t know what I was missing when eating asparagus. So we gave it a go the second year and tried grilling it with olive oil and heavy salt- it was better.
But I wasn’t excited to eat it. More like it’s growing, it’s free- so we better eat it.
This year though, I have TWO power options that make eating asparagus addicting. So much so my KIDS keep wanting it too.
As a family, we are sad when our last batch of asparagus will hit our table this year.
If you are new around her,e I’ve been sharing recipes using my new Ninja Foodi! It’s an air fryer, steamer, dehydrator, and pressure cooker in one. The thing is a beast and it’s right up there with the Kitchenaid mixer.
There are three things to know when preparing asparagus
Be sure you aren’t picking your asparagus past it’s prime point. You don’t want to see little seed clusters. Or when it’s pencil-thin.
Make sure you are trimming it correctly. The good thing about the Ninja Foodi is the air fryer basket won’t fit asparagus unless it’s cut down- which is where you want to trim asparagus anyways.
Don’t bother peeling it unless you have a big daddy stalk. Otherwise, save yourself the work and trim it to put in the air fryer.
Any air fryer will work for your asparagus as long as you combine it with the ONE key ingredient to making asparagus delicious.

Are you ready?
It’s this bottle of garlic sunflower oil from Wegman’s. It’s so fantastic even if you don’t have a Wegman’s near you, you can order it online!
It’s more expensive online than in-store, in-store it’s right around $7 a bottle. As a frugal girl, if we moved from a Wegman’s I’d get it online STILL!
This oil is a must-have for summer veggies. It transforms the asparagus into a deliciousness.
The Ninja Foodi air fryer takes the ends of the asparagus and turns it into a light crispy airy crunch. The seasonings in this oil are light and flavorful.
Regardless if you have asparagus or not the oil is a must-have.
How to Prepare It
Trim you asparagus to fit in your air fryer basket.
I pour a few drops of oil over the asparagus on a plate. I use a brush to get the delicious oil over every possible piece.
I add salt- heavily. If you like sweet corn and you load it up with salt- do the same thing with your asparagus.
Put it in the Ninja Foodi and hit Air fryer. Temp- 350 time is 7-8 minutes. This will depend on how crispy you like the ends. For our family we don’t want it to be mushy we still like a little bite to the stalk.
The air fryer allows the stalk to have that bite while crisping the top perfectly. When you combine the Wegman’s sunflower oil with air frying- you’ve met perfection.
We added Frozen Salmon Fillets on the bottom. I always get it from BJs or Wegmans. The oil on the salmon is delicious too. Seriously this oil is the best.
I pulled the asparagus out before the salmon and ended up cooking the salmon for another five minutes.
The whole meal took about 18 minutes to cook total.
I hope you give this oil a try for your vegetables this year. If you don’t have an air fryer they have come down in price. You could grill it in tin foil with the oil and get similar results.
