No-bake cereal bars are my favorite frugal snack! They’re a great way to use up cereal that the kids are not interested in. I love using these clear containers to keep our cereal in. I have three of them, and that’s it for the kinds of cereal we have at one time. I love couponing for cereal, so if I get a deal on something, I don’t like to open it until the other cereal is gone.
If your kids don’t want to eat cereal, or you want a fun treat to make the kids, try these Strawberry Almond Cereal Bars.
TIPS: You can use anything you want to mix in. For the cheapest option, use what you have. Combining the dried strawberries with the white chocolate chips is delicious, but if you need to use your regular chocolate chips, do that.
If you want to buy the ingredients to make this, I got everything at Aldi. Breakdown below.
- If you want to cut back your grocery bill drastically, try these tips.
Aldi:
- Strawberry Freeze Dried Fruit- $2.79
- Sliced Almonds- $2.89
- White Chocolate Morsels- $2.89
- Crispy Rice Cereal- $1.95
- Mini Marshmallows $0.95
Total: $11.47
After this recipe, you will have a lot of ingredients left- except for the strawberries; you will use the entire bag. You could double it or use it for one of these other cereal bar recipes.
If you haven’t grabbed a bag of these freeze dried strawberries, they are so good! The problem is that one bag will be gone as soon as you open it. That’s why I love using these in recipes instead. That stretches the bag a bit more for everyone in the house.
Ingredients:
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
- 2 Cups Mini Marshmallows
- 1/2 Almond Butter, Cashew Butter. Whichever you prefer or have on hand.
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 cups Cereal ( I used the Aldi Rice Krispies)
- 1 1/4 cups dried strawberries ( The whole bag)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace:
- Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, combine the puffed rice cereal, freeze-dried strawberries, and chopped almonds. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly distributed.
- Heat Wet Ingredients:
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Once the butter melts, add the marshmallows and stir constantly. You don’t want to overcook the marshmallows, or your bars will be rock-hard. Once the marshmallows are added, stir in your almond butter or whatever butter you are using.
- Combine and Mix:
- Pour the warm almond butter mixture over the dry ingredients. Use a spatula to mix everything together until the dry ingredients are fully coated.
- Let it cool for a minute.
- Then add your white chocolate morsels, almond slices, or whatever else you want to use as a mix-in. It’s important not to add the chips right away, or they will melt too much. Let it cool a bit, and they may melt a little, but that’s okay.
- Transfer to Pan:
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan. Press it down firmly and evenly with the back of a spoon or a piece of parchment paper.
- Let it cool for about 10-15 minutes.
- Cut into Bars:
- Once set, cut your bars and serve! So good with coffee, too!
