How to package homemade food gifts (so they look as good as they taste)
- Tins, boxes, and cellophane bags. Cookie tins, kraft boxes, and clear treat bags cost very little in bulk and make everything look bakery-ready. Watch for after-Halloween and dollar-store holiday sections.
- Parchment, twine, and a tag. A square of parchment, a length of baker’s twine, and a handwritten tag turn anything into a gift. The handwriting is what makes it personal.
- Always label. For anything edible, include what it is and (this matters) the ingredients — so anyone with an allergy knows what’s inside.
A quick food-safety note: Homemade food gifts are wonderful, but a few common-sense rules keep them safe. Stick to shelf-stable items for gifts that will sit out or travel (baked goods, candy, dry mixes, properly canned high-acid jams).
