All it takes sometimes is one home decor idea I saw on a TV show or in a magazine, and BOOM; I need it to happen. I’m not sure if I call it inspiration or perfect marketing, but I know when I act on these instincts, it brings joy every time I see it on my own.
As long as I can find the exact item I am looking for.
This happened the other day with a kitchen I saw in a magazine. I fell in love with the rug they had under their table. I’ve had a rug under our dining room table, but not our Kitchen.
I decided our Kitchen NEEDED a rug, which needs a carpet today.
( Check out our complete kitchen makeover on a budget here.)
I have a handful of places I check for cheap home decor. I hate overpaying for things when I know you can get them more affordable. However, when it comes to rugs, wholesale clubs I’ve found are the absolute best price.
I’ve price compared all the big box stores in our area, and BJ’s, Sam’s, and Costco always win. I went to BJ’s because I was going there for blog stuff anyways.
They only had ONE of the exact rugs I wanted left. That’s an instant sign; it was meant to be.
I love when I don’t hesitate about purchasing this. For one, I didn’t need a huge one, so the cost was only $39.99. And two, if it looked awful in the Kitchen, I could bring it back for the 100% money-back guarantee.
I wasn’t worried.
And I love it. So if I haven’t convinced you yet to try an indoor/outdoor rug in your home, let’s look at seven more ways you may just be heading out to your local wholesale club this weekend.

Add Color & Texture
When you shop in stores at the beginning of the Spring season, you will find a variety of colors and patterns that can add an eye-catching touch to your home decor without spending a lot of money.
All you have to do is visit Wayfair and type in area rugs, and you will see prices at $200 and above.
I like $100 and under. If you want the BEST camper rug or Outdoor rug for cheap that LASTS, check out this post.
Define Spaces
I’m not a designer by any means, but those terms they use for your furniture are floating. I guess that’s what they mean when an area rug instantly defines a space.
When you look into the Kitchen now, your eye looks right down to the carpet, and you see the room as it is. You create a visual separation that is useful, especially if you have an open floor plan.
Repurpose Outdoors
Okay, frugal friends, this rug comes with other purposes! After our first dog, which we raised together as a married couple, died, the outdoor carpet he always laid on in our dining room ended up getting stained.
So I also wanted to start fresh. You can bring these rugs outdoors, powerwash them and then add them to a deck, patio, etc.
You can do the same if you put it outside for the summer and bring it in for the winter. Then, mix up your rugs from room to room when the winter blues set in.
Durable and Easy to Clean
This is my favorite part of these rugs. Of course, with kids, dog hair, and cat puke everywhere ( hello, Senior cat!), it’s okay if the spills and throw-up go on these rugs. But they are super easy to clean. I always use OxiClean on the stain, and it comes right out.
You can also mop right over these. Frequently I will use the O-cedar mop, STILL my favorite, right over the carpet like it’s a hardwood floor. It works amazingly.
These rugs are perfect for high-traffic areas, pet owners, or families with young children.
Affordable Investment
When shopping online for indoor rugs, the prices seem to start at $200. I do not want to spend $1,000 on a rug that will most likely get dog puke, cat puke, and all the dirt from our farm on it.
This is why indoor/outdoor rugs are an economical alternative. I choose wholesale clubs because of the price, but if you are shopping online, there are so many styles and variations.
Remember you aren’t looking to add these rugs to sit down and read a book on.
Protect your floors
Before I had my ah-hah moment with these rugs, I used my frugal tape hack for my dining room chairs. When we moved into our Farmhouse six years ago ( and now are mortgage free), we put new laminate flooring throughout.
Since we were doing everything possible to save money, I wanted our floors to last.
When you have an indoor/outdoor rug under your furniture, you don’t have to worry about the kids scratching the floors and adding extra wear and tear.
Indoor/outdoor rugs are a budget-friendly solution to give your home an updated look without spending much money. In addition, they offer versatility in color, pattern, shape, and size, making them an excellent option to transform your space with their flexibility.
I love using indoor/outdoor rugs to create a visual distinction that defines different zones and anchors the design elements of my room.
I didn’t like the placemats on there anymore.
My favorite cleaner on the table to use is Method Wood Cleaner.
They are easy to clean and durable, making them an ideal investment for high-traffic areas and families with young children or pets. By being creative and experimenting with different designs, you can refresh your home décor with indoor/outdoor rugs, adding instant style and value to your living space.
